This brief comments on citizens’ views on taxation by local authorities in Tanzania, the procedures for revenue collection and allocation, and policy implications. This brief forms part of a series of easily readable summaries of research findings resulting from a survey of six councils in Tanzania, part of a four-year research project to document the impacts of the Local Government Reform Program in Tanzania, and to provide relevant data obtained during its implementation.
