Sustained Work and Dedicated Capacity: Idasa’s experience in applied budget work in South Africa - English Summary

This paper (available in English or in Spanish as a summary) is part of a joint effort by the International Budget Partnership (IBP) and the Institute for Development Studies to study the experience of civil society budget work in six countries around the world. In all of these countries—Brazil, Croatia, India, Mexico, South Africa, and Uganda—civil society organizations have undertaken budget work for a significant period of time. This report is the study of the South African experience, focusing on the work of the Budget Information Service (BIS), a group nested within Idasa.
