In light of what NEPRU sees as a consistent correlation between good governance and poverty reduction, it has undertaken this study to investigate the economic dimension of good governance, namely, the budget process and economic governance. Drawing from the latest literature on these themes as well as relevant studies on Southern and Eastern Africa, this paper analyzes three main methods of economic governance capacity-building: Medium-Term Expenditure Frameworks (MTEFs), the role of autonomous revenue authorities, parliaments, non-state actors, and the auditor general. The paper concludes each of its three sections by offering references for further study.
